Sleep 05 - Action - Read a technical, a difficult or dull book to induce boredom.
Ok, often times I wake up in the middle of the night and my brain is wandering and know it's going to be a time before I'll rest so I'll take myself elsewhere plonk myself under a low level light and read. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Examples that have worked for me -
• Any D&D manual ... I kid you not, within 2 pages of reading I'm usually fast asleep. Nigel has had several similar experiences. Though interesting there's something about the tables and figures that induce a state of tired exhaustion.
• Don Quixote. I've never got further than the first chapter, it's uber dull.
• Any highbrow, heavy philosophy books. If badly translated even better ... trying to make sense of the mangled language can fatigue me really quickly.
• A thick collection of Calvin and Hobbes cartoon strips. I love them but there's usually so much densley packed into one book I'm wiped in a very short time. Plus they have the feel good factor so hopefully put me in a good mood when dreaming.
